Grant county is in the extreme southwest corner of Kansas and offers some of the richest farm land in Kansas. Most of the land is characterized by well-drained loam and sandy loam soils that are typically very level. There is both irrigated and dryland farm land available in Grant County, Kansas, however it is a closed water district. This means that you cannot irrigate without an active water right and new certificates are not being issued. This makes irrigated farm land very valuable in this dry part of the word. Farmers in Grant County typically live near their land or in the city of Ulysses, Kansas. Ulysses, Kansas offers good schools and services and is a progressive community of agriculture related businesses as well as natural gas service companies. Cattle and hog production is also very vital in Grant County. Land typically sells without the mineral rights attached because most of the county has been leased and is producing oil and natural gas making the minerals often just as valuable as the land.
